By and large, it is a pleasure to read the stories filed by Kenyan journalists, listen to the humour of and get the latest news updates from our FM radio presenters. But sometimes some of them can drive one to tears of despair. Sample this from an otherwise well written and researched piece from today's Daily Nation Sports pages (the lead story on page 62 to be precise):

The Court of Arbitration for Sports, sitting in Lousanne, Switzerland, on Tuesday dismissed Kenya Football Federation’s request to be recognised as the body mandated to manage football in Kenya.

KFF had sued Fifa at Cas wanting the world soccer governing body to recognise the federation’s officials and to desist from dealing with FKL as their local affiliates.

In its 17-page ruling, Cas said there were no legal grounds that would entitle KFF to be declared as a member of Fifa and dismissed the federation’s case with costs.

The Cas ruling ends another chapter in the persistent football power struggles in the country that have lasted the better part of the decade and contributed to the alarming decline of football standards in the country.

The just-concluded case can be traced to 2007 when two alignments of the KFF held parallel annual general meetings.

No longer registered

Following the meetings two emergent KFF factions took root, each claiming to be the legitimate managers of Kenyan football.

The following year, one group, aligned to Sam Nyamweya, partitioned Fifa to start an arbitration process .....
